Ductus
Ductus is a font family designed with the tool Metapost, which is a programing language to design shapes by defining points with coordinates and defining drawing instructions. So the way this tool functions is similar to calligraphic ductus: letters are drawn following a specific gesture in a defined order. My inspiration for this font was roman calligraphic letters, I transcripted the traditional ductus with Metapost to make a new interpretation of it. The first version was the regular, then I designed the monospace version by modifiying the regular. Some letters in Ductus Mono are inspired by uncial calligraphy.
Ductus is what we call a "stroke font", it is designed by a central skeleton rather by the outline. This enables to decline the original font in several version by applying a "pen" in Metapost, so an outline with a defined shape and thickness. This is why the fonts exist in three versions: regular, calligraphic and squared.
In 2022, I modified the fonts to add inclusive glyphs in it and Ductus fonts are also available on Bye Bye Binary's foundry since then.
